Top 10 Moments - #6 - Golf Wins Final Two Events On Spring Slate Including Glenn Heath Memorial For First Time

Starting the third week of the 2013-14 Apprentice School Top 10 Moments Countdown is the season ending run of the golf team as they finished with a pair of tournament wins – ending with the 2014 Glenn Heath Shipbuilders Memorial.

On April 6-7, the golf team ventured to Red Wing Lake Golf course in Virginia Beach and captured the Virginia Wesleyan College Marlin Invitational for the second time in three years.  After holding a six-stroke lead following a 315 round one, the Builders shot 314 in a rain-soaked final round to win the tournament by 19 strokes over Shenandoah.

Kyle Mutter held onto the medalist lead to win his first honor of the season with a five-over-par 149 total.  Ben Hunter was tied for second just four strokes off, while Eric Johnston was seventh and Russell Fields tied for tenth.

A week later, the Builders hosted the annual Glenn Heath Memorial Shipbuilders Tournament at Williamsburg Club.  With a forecast of an all day rain on Tuesday, the tournament was condensed to a one-day, two-round affair.

Much like the Marlin Invitational, the Builders shot a 315 in the morning round to hold a three-stroke lead over Christopher Newport University.  The afternoon round saw the Builders pull off a 304 total to win the event by 10 strokes over Shenandoah University.

Hunter, who was tied for the lead after the morning round, ended his collegiate career with an even-par 72 to win the medalist honor by three strokes.  Mutter was in fourth, Johnston in seventh and Fields finished in 15th place for the Builders.

The win at the Glenn Heath Memorial was the first time that the Builders won its own tournament named after the long-time former golf coach.

Pay attention Friday as the #5 moment of 2013-14 will be released.
