Complete Box Score

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. - Savannah College of Art & Design rode the guard combination of Kyle Jones and Labeeb Abdullah as they shot 54% from the floor en route to defeating Apprentice School 80-69 in Newport News on Saturday.

The win for the Bees (13-5) marks their eighth straight win which is third longest in school history. The loss for the Builders (8-8) snaps a 12 game home-court winning streak dating back to Jan. of 2001.

Jones hit four 3-pointers for 17 points and Abdullah scored 13 points with 13 assists as four Bees were in double figures. Apprentice School was paced by Charles Holiday who had a career-high 30 points and Rico Walters who scored 10. SCAD shot 54% from the floor while Apprentice School managed 43.3%.

SCAD lead from start to finish as the Builders only tied the game once at 2-2 on a jumper by Holiday. From that point the Bees went on a 16-4 run to go ahead 18-6 on a jumper by Wesley Adams with 11:39 left in the first half. Apprentice School whittled the lead down to three with 4:04 left on a jumper by Holiday for a 29-26 score, but the Bees answered outscoring Apprentice 11-4 in the last 4:04 for a 40-30 halftime advantage.

In the second half, the Builders fell behind by 18 points after a dunk from Paul Otim gave SCAD a 59-41 lead with 11:55 left. Apprentice School cut it to six on two occasions, last one being a jumper by Holiday with 3:12 left for a 68-62 score. Following a jumper by Davis, SCAD squashed any hopes of a comeback. After a stickback by Keith Davis they forced a turnover and Jones drained a 3-pointer in a 25 second span to go ahead 75-62 with 94 seconds left.

Apprentice School will next travel to Latrobe, Pa. to take on St. Vincent's College on Saturday night at 8 p.m. These teams will meet again in Savannah, Ga. on Feb. 8 at 3 p.m.
