Six Apprentice Athletes Named to Va. Sports Information Directors All-Academic Team

The Apprentice School had six of its student-athletes honored on Monday by the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association by being named to the Academic All-State team.

VaSID honored 194 athletes which represented the largest group the organization has recognized with this award. Each Virginia institution, including NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, and independents, had the opportunity to submit athletes to be honored.

To be eligible, student-athletes were required to have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better. The student must have achieved sophomore status, and he or she could not have been in the first season of competition at their current school. All athletes are either starters or key reserves for their team.

Sophomore Kyle Center and senior Harding Epps were honored from the baseball team. Center, from Gloucester, finished the year with a .357 average, 45 hits (3rd best on team), 29 runs scored, eight doubles and one triple. He earned All-Tournament honors at the USCAA National Championships. Epps, from Stone Mountain, Ga., is a four-year member of the baseball team who started in 15 games this year and was a valuable reserve infielder.

Junior Jonathan Gladden and senior Ricky Wilkerson were honored from the football team. Both were recognized as Academic All-District honorees by the College Sports Information Directors Association at the end of the football season. Gladden, from Charlotte, NC, has started at center for all but one game in his collegiate career. Wilkerson, from King William, Va., was a four-year letterman at cornerback and safety.

Sophomore Rahshann Lewter was also honored from the women's basketball team. She had topped the Lady Builders in scoring each of the past two years, including averaging 11.1 points per game this year. Lewter, from Hampton, Va., has been named to the USCAA All-American team in each of her first two seasons.

Junior Chris Hartman was also honored from the golf team. A Williamsburg, Va. native, he has helped lead the golf team to record low final averages in each of the last two years.
