HAMPTON, VA. - Junior Kyle Center's one-out sacrifice fly scored
junior Bryce Beale with the winning run as the Apprentice School
scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to defeat Bloomsburg
University 6-5 in the first game of the 14th annual
Builder Invitational at War Memorial Stadium.
After giving up a pair of runs in the top of the ninth, junior
Eric Polk started the inning for the Builders with a walk and was
forced out on an infield grounder from sophomore James Denny.
After Beale reached on a throwing error, sophomore Jonathan Dehoux
singled to right field to score Denny to tie the game 5-all.
Freshman Dory Fields drew a walk to load the bases for Center's
heroics.
Senior Joe Tugwell threw the first seven innings allowing only
one hit and one run. Freshman Greg Tilman threw the last 1.2
innings to earn his second win of the season.
Fields was 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in the first inning
while Dehoux, Beale and sophomore Kenny Eanes also had two hits.
The Builders will now face Kutztown University at noon on Friday
afternoon in day two of the Builder Invitational.
