Baseball drops two in final day of invitational

 

HAMPTON, VA. - The Apprentice School baseball team lost a pair of games on Sunday in the final day of the Builder Invitational falling to East Stroudsburg University 9-8 in 11 innings and then 5-0 to Lock Haven University.

Against Lock Haven, the Bald Eagles pushed a run across in the first and never trailed in the 5-0 victory.  Andrew Simonik threw a complete game three-hitter for Lock Haven (2-2) and had a no-hitter for 5.1 innings before Eric Polk's single to left field broke it up in the sixth. Polk had two of the Builders' three hits in the contest and Alan Riley had the other.

Kyle Sheaffer's two-out single to right field scored Mike Bortz with the winning run in the bottom of the 11th as the Warriors scored eight of their nine runs in the last three innings for the win.

Jonathan Dehoux was 4-for-6 with three runs scored, while Kyle Center was 2-for-4 with 4 RBI for the Builders.  Coire Barnitz took the loss pitching the 11th.  Five Warriors had two hits each, while Bortz, Brendan O'Malley and Sheaffer drove in a pair each.
