Builders lose doubleheader to Saint Vincent 10-7, 3-2


HAMPTON, VA. -- The Apprentice School baseball team lost a doubleheader on Sunday to visiting Saint Vincent College 10-7 and 3-2 at War Memorial Stadium.  Those losses dropped the Builders record to 10-7, while Saint Vincent is now 6-4.

In the opener, sophomore Jonathan Dehoux continued his torrid hitting smashing a three-run home run in the second inning cutting the deficit to 7-6.  Dehoux now has five home runs and 29 RBIs in his first 17 games.  In the third, junior Eric Polk singled in junior J.D. Drewry to tie the game at 7-all.  The Bearcats scored a pair in the fourth and pushed one more across in the seventh for the win.

Dehoux was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three driven in, while Drewry and Beale were 2-for-4 each.  Sophomore Aaron Penny took the loss dropping his record to 2-1.

In the nightcap, junior Kyle Center singled in sophomore James Denny who started the first inning with a single to give the Builders a 1-0 lead.  Two innings later, Center doubled in Denny to give the Builders a 2-1 advantage.  Saint Vincent's scored a run in the fourth and one in the fifth to take the victory.

Denny and Center were 2-for-4 each in the nightcap while Denny scored both runs and had two stolen bases and Center drove in both and added a double.

The Builders now travel to Petersburg to face Division II Virginia State University in a 2 pm matchup on Tuesday.
