Builders split day two of round-robin

HAMPTON, VA. - Junior Eric Polk scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the 11th as the Apprentice School defeated Maritime College 6-5 to split a doubleheader on Saturday.

In the opener, sophomore Kenny Eanes went 3-for-3 as the Builders lost 7-1 to Division II Indiana University-Pennsylvania.

Senior Alan Riley threw eight innings allowing seven hits, one unearned run and striking out five to earn his first collegiate victory in the nightcap as he came in with bases loaded in the fourth inning. The Privateers scored all five of their runs in the fourth aided by two Builder errors.  Riley won the game on Friday against IU-P with a RBI single in the bottom of the ninth.

The Builders tied the game with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Two of those came on a Kyle Center double while Riley singled in Bryce Beale who had reached on an error that scored a run.

In the eleventh, Polk started the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Eanes.  He stole third and then scored as a pitch to Dory Fields scooted by the catcher.

Beale was 2-for-5 with a run scored, while six other Builders had a hit apiece in the nightcap.

These teams will face each other again on Sunday with the Builders taking on Maritime at 10 am, Maritime facing IU-P at 1 pm and IU-P and the Builders close out the weekend at 4 pm.
