Apprentice School senior Alan Riley was named the USCAA Baseball
Player of the Week for the week ending March 16.
The Newport News native went 10-for-25 in a six-game week that
began for him by driving in the game-winning run in the bottom of
the ninth in a 10-9 Apprentice School win over Division II Indiana
University-Pennsylvania on Friday. On Saturday he earned his first
collegiate victory in his first pitching appearance throwing eight
innings allowing seven hits and striking out five as the Builders
defeated Maritime College 6-5 in 11 innings. The next day he went a
career-best 4-for-5 with three runs scored and a pair of doubles as
the Builders lost 11-8 to IU-P.
The Builders return home for a five-games in four day stretch
beginning on Saturday with a 12:30 pm doubleheader with Tufts
University.
