HAMPTON, VA. - Junior Kyle Center went 4-for-4 with two doubles
and drove in five runs as the Apprentice School completed a
three-game sweep of Fulton-Montgomery College with a 21-5 win on
Tuesday afternoon. The game was stopped after 6 1/2 innings
due to the 10-run rule.
The Builders cut an early deficit to 3-2 after sophomore James
Denny started the bottom of the first with a double and junior J.D.
Drewry was hit by a pitch. Both runners stole a base and
scored on Center's first double of the day.
Following a two-run third for Fulton-Montgomery, the Builders
broke loose scoring eight runs in the third inning with Drewry
getting a two-run double and a bases-clearing double from
Center. Drewry went 1-for-1 on the day getting hit by a pitch
twice and a walk while driving in three runs and scoring two.
The hitting power kept going in the fifth as the Builders scored
five runs with freshman Dory Fields tripling in a pair and
sophomore Kenny Eanes doubling in one. Junior Eric Polk and
senior Alan Riley also singled in a run apiece to put the Builders
ahead 15-5 after five complete innings.
In the sixth, the Builders put the finishing touches on the game
scoring six runs as freshman Robert Goodwin singled in a pair of
runs, while Riley singled in another and Travis Franklin drove in
one by being hit by a pitch.
Eanes went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored while Goodwin,
Fields and Riley each had two hits to help the Builders who had 19
hits in the contest. Sophomore Aaron Penny won his third
decision of the year throwing five innings and striking out
nine.
The Builders are next in action on Monday at 2 pm with a single
game against Rappahannock CC.
