HAMPTON, VA. - Senior Joe Tugwell threw four shutout innings
allowing three hits and striking out five as the Apprentice School
defeated Rappahannock CC 6-2 on Monday at War Memorial Stadium.
After spotting a run in the top of the third to the Gulls, the
Apprentice School (18-12) tied the game in the bottom of the fourth
on freshman Dory Fields' second home run of the season.
Rappahannock (9-1) scored its final run in the fifth inning on a
passed ball. In the home half of the fifth, the Builders tied
it at 2 as junior J.D. Drewry singled in sophomore Kenny Eanes who
had earlier doubled.
The Builders took the lead for good in the sixth scoring a run
as Fields started with a double and advanced to third on an Alan
Riley single. A sacrifice fly from Bryce Beale scored Fields
for a 3-2 advantage. Icing on the cake came in the seventh as
the Builders scored three more runs. Consecutive doubles from
Drewry and Jonathan Dehoux scored a pair of runs and the third came
on a wild pitch.
Senior Joe Tugwell earned his third win of the year throwing the
last four innings and allowing only three hits. Freshman Tabb
Griffey pitched the first five innings allowing six hits and
