MONACA, PA. - Alex Fox hit a one-out walkoff home run in the
bottom of the seventh as Penn State Beaver defeated Apprentice
School 9-8 on Sunday afternoon.
The Builders opened the scoring in the first inning as freshman
Dory Fields doubled in junior JD Drewry who had earlier
singled. Penn State Beaver scored a pair in the bottom of the
first and a run in the bottom of the second before the Builders
tied the score at 3 in the top of the fourth on a two-run double
from sophomore James Denny.
The host Nittany Lions scored a pair in the fifth while the
Builders answered with one in the sixth as freshman Ryan Wagner
tripled and scored on a groundout from sophomore Kenny Eanes.
Penn State Beaver pushed a pair more across in its half of the
sixth to take an 8-4 lead heading into the seventh.
Apprentice School tied the game in the seventh as junior Bryce
Beale cleared the bases with a triple scoring sophomore Jonathan
Dehoux who had doubled along with Fields and senior Alan Riley who
each had been hit by a pitch. Beale scored as junior Mike
Nelson reached on an error.
Riley took the loss for the Builders after pitching the last 2.1
innings. Seven different players had a hit each for the
Builders and eight different players each scored a run.
Apprentice School now will face NCAA Division III South Region
power Virginia Wesleyan on Thursday night at 5 pm at War Memorial
Stadium.
