Apprentice School senior Joe Tugwell was named the U.S.
Collegiate Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week for the week
ending April 6.
Tugwell, a senior pipefitter apprentice from Hampton and a Phoebus
High School graduate, earned both Apprentice School victories in
the week pitching 11 innings, striking out 11 and allowing five
hits in two wins.
Against Rappahannock CC on March 31, he threw four innings
allowing three hits and striking out five as the Builders won
6-2. In the opener of the Penn State Beaver Round Robin
on Saturday, Tugwell threw a two-hit shutout striking out seven as
the Builders defeated Rochester College 7-0.
For the year, Tugwell sports a 4-2 record with a 3.78 earned run
average. He's made nine appearances, eight starts and thrown
two complete games.
The Builders return to action today at 5 pm against Virginia
Wesleyan College at War Memorial Stadium.
