Baseball Falls 3-1 To Virginia Wesleyan


HAMPTON, VA. - Sophomore James Denny and senior Alan Riley had two hits apiece for Apprentice School as they lost 3-1 on Thursday night to Virginia Wesleyan College.

The Marlins opened the scoring in the fourth inning after two outs when Hilton Ianiciello was hit by a pitch and scored on a double from Ozz Dhramapitaksook.  In the fifth, Max Axelrod and Kevin Nally started with singles and Axelrod scored on an errant pickoff throw.  Nally scored on a RBI groundout by Mike Marion for a 3-0 Marlins lead.

Apprentice School scratched a run across in the bottom of the sixth.  With one out, freshman Dory Fields singled and advanced to second on a single by junior Kyle Center.  Senior Alan Riley scored Fields with a single to right field.

Sophomore Nick Pisula picked up the win for the Marlins throwing the first five innings and striking out nine.  Senior Joe Tugwell took the loss for the Builders throwing 7.1 innings and allowing eight hits.

Apprentice School returns to action on Monday in Danville against Danville Community College in a noon doubleheader.
