DANVILLE, VA. - Junior J.D. Drewy and senior Alan Riley had
three hits apiece in game one while Riley and junior Bryce Beale
drove in three runs each in the first game as the Apprentice School
defeated Danville Community College 9-5 in the opening game of a
doubleheader at Dan Daniels Park.
In the nightcap, sophomore Kenny Eanes drove in a pair of runs
in the sixth as the Builders fell 10-4.
Beale drove in his three runs in the first inning clearing the
bases with a double as the Builders jumped out to a 4-0 lead after
one. In the second, sophomore James Denny scored on a wild
pitch and Drewry scored on a RBI single from freshman Dory Fields
for a 6-0 lead.
In the fourth, the Builders scored a couple more runs on a RBI
single from junior Kyle Center and a RBI double from Riley.
After giving up three runs in the bottom of the fourth, Riley
closed out his 3-for-3 game one showing with a RBI single that
scored Center to go ahead 9-3.
Sophomore Jonathan Dehoux earned his fourth win of the year
throwing six innings and allowing three hits while striking out
seven. Drewry was 3-for-5 with three runs scored, while Riley
was 3-for-3 with three RBIs.
The second game saw the Builders score a run in the first as
Drewry doubled and scored on an errant throw. In the third,
Apprentice School scored another run as Dehoux singled in Denny
with two outs for a 2-0 advantage.
The host Knights exploded in the third for six runs and held an
8-2 lead after five before Eanes' two-run single in the sixth cut
the deficit to 8-4. Danville scored a pair more in the bottom
of the sixth for the 10-4 final.
Dehoux and Fields each went 2-for-4 as the Builders had nine
hits in the second game.
The Builders now return to action on Thursday in Ashland, Va. to
face Randolph-Macon College in a 3 pm encounter.
