HAMPTON, VA. -- Zack Beasley's third inning grand slam home run
broke open a close game as visiting Chowan University defeated the
Apprentice School 15-10 on Tuesday night at War Memorial Stadium.
The Hawks held a 9-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth,
but the Builders pushed a run across in the fourth as junior Bryce
Beale doubled and scored on a single from junior Eric Polk.
In the fifth the Builders scored twice more as junior Kyle Center
doubled scoring sophomore Jonathan Dehoux and freshman Dory Fields
to cut the lead to 10-4.
After giving up a pair in the sixth, the Builders scored one in
its half of the inning as Beale hit his third double of the game to
right center and scored on a Polk single. In the fourth the
Builders pushed four runs across as Dory Fields started the inning
with a walk and scored on a Polk single. Sophomore Kenny
Eanes then doubled in senior Alan Riley which was followed by a
two-run single from sophomore James Denny making the score 12-9.
That was as close as the Builders got as the Hawks scored three
in the top of the ninth before Polk's fielders choice Riley with
the lone run for the Builders in the bottom of the ninth.
Beale was 4-for-5 on the day with three runs scored, while Polk
was 3-for-5 with 4 RBIs. Eanes and Denny had a pair of hits
and drove in a pair of runs each for the Builders (20-19).
These teams will meet again on Wednesday afternoon at 3 pm in
Murfreesboro, N.C.
