HAMPTON, VA. - The Apprentice School baseball team opened its
2009 season with a doubleheader sweep of Thomas Nelson CC winning
the opener 4-1 and taking the nightcap 20-7 at War Memorial
Stadium.
In the opener, the Builders broke the game open with a three-run
third inning behind a RBI double from Kyle Center and RBI singles
from Bryce Beale and Ryan Wagner. Center was 3-for-4 with two
RBIs to lead the Builders who had six hits in the contest.
Junior Dallas Wagner picked up the victory throwing the last
three innings and striking out five.
The second game saw both teams break out the hitting shoes
combining for 23 hits and 27 runs. Apprentice School scored 18 of
those runs in the first three innings as J.D. Drewry, Jonathan
Dehoux and Kenny Eanes all drove in three runs in the contest.
Dehoux also hit his first home run of the year in the fifth
inning. Beale was 3-for-3 with four runs scoured and a double
to lead a 12-hit Builder attack. Sophomore Coire Barnitz
picked up the win throwing two innings and striking out four.
For the doubleheader, Beale was 4-for-6 with four runs scored
and a double to lead the team. Center and Ryan Wagner were
3-for-5 each while Drewry was 2-for-5 with three RBIs.
Apprentice School will now play host to the Builder Invitational
starting on Thursday at 3 pm as the Builders face Bloomsburg
University.
