Dehoux Drives In School Record 10 Runs As Baseball Splits Two In Invitational
HAMPTON, VA.-Junior Jonathan Dehoux went 5-for-6 and drove in a school record 10 runs with a pair of home runs as the Apprentice School defeated Lock Haven University 22-11 to split its games on day three of the Builder Invitational on Saturday.
In the opener, the Builders scored a run in the seventh on a RBI single from sophomore Ryan Wagner to score sophomore Dory Fields as they lost 10-1 to East Stroudsburg. Dehoux was 2-for-4 as the Builders were held to five hits in the contest.
Against Lock Haven, the Builders scored four in the first with Dehoux driving in J.D. Drewry with a single. In the fourth, Dehoux hit his first home run on a deep shot to left field for a three-run home run. He followed that with a grand slam in the fifth just down the left field line to put the Builders up 12-5.
In the eighth his single scored Drewry for his record-tying ninth run driven in to put them ahead 15-7. Lock Haven scored a pair in the bottom of the eighth on Matt Palko's two-run home run but the Builders broke it wide open in the ninth scoring seven runs. Dehoux singled in Ryan Wagner for the record-breaking RBI and Fields followed by clearing the bases with a double to highlight the inning.
Tabb Griffey earned the victory in the nightcap throwing five innings for the Builders. Drewry was 4-for-5 with five runs scored, while Bryce Beale was 3-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored as well for the Apprentice School.
The previous RBI record was held by Rob Arredondo with nine against Randolph-Macon College on March 13, 2001.
These teams will face each other again on Sunday morning at 9 am in the first game of the championship bracket. The winner will turn around and play for third place at noon.
