Baseball Rallies But Falls 11-10 To Lock Haven In Invitational
HAMPTON, VA - The Apprentice School rallied from a 5-1 deficit but lost 11-10 in ten innings to Lock Haven University on the final day of the Builder Invitational at War Memorial Stadium.
The Bald Eagles took a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning but the Builders pushed five runs across to take their first lead at 6-5. Sophomore Dory Fields drove in two runs on a single that turned into a four-run hit as Fields also scored on an error.
Each team then scored a run in the sixth and the Bald Eagles pushed two across in the seventh for an 8-7 lead. Apprentice School tied the game in the bottom of the eighth as senior Kyle Center's two-out single scored fellow senior Eric Polk.
In the tenth, Lock Haven scored three runs with Ted Stake's two-run double highlighting the inning. The Builders had a chance to tie in the tenth but Lock Haven forced a double play to end the game.
Center was 4-for-6 with a pair of runs driven in to lead the Builders at the plate on Sunday. Senior J.D. Drewry was 3-for-5 with three runs scored as well. Junior Dallas Wagner took the loss for the Builders dropping his record to 2-1.
Apprentice School will now host Elizabeth City State University on Tuesday in a 2 pm single game at War Memorial Stadium.
