Baseball Defeats Penn State Abington 9-1 - Loses Second Game To Mother Nature
HAMPTON, VA. -- Sophomore Dory Fields and freshman Dawson Langhorne had three hits apiece to back the 11 strikeout performance of junior Dallas Wagner as the Apprentice School defeated Penn State Abington 9-1 in a game called after seven innings due to rain. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was cancelled.
The Builders opened the scoring in the second inning as Fields singled in senior Kyle Center and junior Jonathan Dehoux's sacrifice fly scored senior J.D. Drewry for a 2-0 lead. In the fifth the Builders plated three runs on RBI singles from Langhorne, junior Kenny Eanes and a bases loaded walk to Drewry to lead 5-1.
AFter scoring on a wild pitch in the sixth, the Builders pushed three more across in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Center, a RBI single from senior Bryce Beale and scored on another wild pitch.
Wagner became the first builder since current pitching coach Ben Jones to strike out 10 or more batters in a game with his 11 on Sunday. Jones did the feat seven times, topped by his school record 16 strikeouts against Chowan in 2006. Wagner allowed two hits and walked three in the game.
Apprentice School (6-3) will now face Indiana University-Pennsylvania for a four-game set starting on Thursday with a 2 pm single game at War Memorial Stadium.
