Builders Sweep Fulton Montgomery 5-3, 14-0

HAMPTON, VA. -- The Apprentice School baseball team ran its winning streak to seven games on Monday with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Fulton Montgomery CC (NY) 5-3 and 14-0 at War Memorial Stadium.

In the opener, the teams scored all their runs in the first three innings.  The Builders put a run across in the first as Ryan Wagner was hit by a pitch to score Eric Polk.  After giving up two in the second and one in the third, the Builders responded with four runs in its half of the third inning as Wagner doubled in Dory Fields and Jonathan Dehoux who each singled to start the inning.  Kyle Center and Chris Baker followed with sacrifice flies to score the final two runs in the 5-3 win.

Junior Dallas Wagner earned his seventh victory on the season striking out seven while allowing three hits.  Five Builders had a hit each, while Ryan Wagner drove in three of the runs.

The nightcap saw the Builders break out the hitting shoes smashing 16 hits in the 14-0 win.  Apprentice School broke it open with six runs in the second inning as Fields doubled in a pair, while Dehoux and Ryan Wagner singled in one each and Bryce Beale doubled in another. 

In the third Eric Polk singled in Andrew Yonta for an 8-0 lead before the Builders iced the game with a pair of runs in the fifth and four in the sixth.  Kenny Eanes doubled in a run while Polk scored another on a groundout in the fifth.  In the sixth, Yonta cleared the bases with a three-run double and later scored on a Polk single.

Yonta had a career-best day scoring four runs while going 4-for-4 at the plate and driving in three.  polk also drove in three runs going 2-for-3 with a run.  Dehoux and Beale had three hits apiece on the contest to help the 16-hit attack.

Freshman Ryan Collins won his first collegiate game throwing five innings and striking out seven.  Fellow freshman Noland Robertson closed the game throwing the last two innings and striking out two.

Apprentice School will close the three-game series with the Raiders on Tuesday with a 2 pm single game at War Memorial Stadium.
