Baseball Streak Hits 10 With Doubleheader Sweep Of Saint Vincent
HAMPTON, VA. - The Apprentice School baseball team saw its winning streak hit 10 games on Saturday as the Builders swept a doubleheader from Saint Vincent College 3-1 and 6-1 at War Memorial Stadium.
In the opener, the Builders scratched runs in the first, fifth and sixth innings. In the first, Jonathan Dehoux singled with two outs and scored on a double from Dory Fields. After giving up a run in the fourth, Apprentice School scored another run in the fifth also with two outs. Kenny Eanes singled into shallow left field and advanced to third on a J.D. Drewry single. He scored on a single by Eric Polk for a 2-1 lead. In the sixth, Bryce Beale started with a walk and advanced on a sacrifice by Ryan Wagner. He scored on a two-out double from Kyle Center.
Dallas Wagner earned his eighth win on the season throwing a complete game three-hitter. He struck out seven and allowed one unearned run to raise his record to 8-2. Fields was 2-for-3 to lead a seven-hit attack for the Builders.
In game two, the Builders broke it open early scoring four runs in the second inning. Center singled in Beale who started the inning reaching on a throwing error. Andrew Yonta then doubled in Ryan Wagner who had singled earlier for a 2-0 lead. One batter later Drewry doubled down the right field line scoring Yonta and Center for a 4-0 advantage.
In the sixth the Builders pushed two more across as Yonta hit his second double of the game scoring Ryan Wagner. Yonta scored as Eanes followed his double with a single to right center for a 6-0 lead.
Sophomore Austin Leftwich picked up his second win on the season throwing a complete game three-hitter. He struck out four and allowed one unearned run to raise his record to 2-1. Center and Yonta were 2-for-3 each as the Builders had eight hit in the game.
Apprentice School (17-8) will close the three-game series on Sunday morning with an 11 am start against Saint Vincent at War Memorial Stadium.
