Builders Survive 12-10 Slugfest With Saint Vincent For 11th Straight Win
HAMPTON, VA.- - Senior J.D. Drewry went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and junior Jonathan Dehoux also drove in three runs, two of which on his seventh home run of the year, as the Apprentice School survived a 12-10 slugfest with Saint Vincent on Sunday for its 11th straight victory.
The Builders scored a run in the first after one out as Eric Polk walked, stole second and scored on a single from Dehoux. Saint Vincent took the lead in the second as they scored twice with a Keith Primeaux home run leading the inning off. Apprentice School (18-8) broke it open with a seven-run third inning as Drewry cleared the bases with a double highlighting the outburst. He started the inning with a single and scored on a wild pitch. Sophomore Andrew Yonta was hit by a pitch to drive in a run, while Kenny Eanes drew a bases loaded walk and the seventh run scored on an error.
In the fourth inning, the Builders used a Center run-scoring single and a Yonta run-scoring double to put them ahead 10-2. The Bearcats clawed their way back into the game with a six-run fifth inning before Dehoux blasted his team-high seventh home run deep into the left field parking lot to put the hosts up 12-8.
Sophomore Coire Barnitz earned his third victory of the season closing the game with 4.2 innings of relief. Bryce Beale and Center also had two hits to help the Builders who were outhit in the game 15-12.
Apprentice School now faces Danville CC on Wednesday in a 1 pm doubleheader at War Memorial Stadium.
