Builders Fail To Catch Marlins In 10-4 Baseball Loss

HAMPTON, VA. - Senior J.D. Drewry matched a season high with four hits while junior Jonathan Dehoux went 3-for-5 with a pair of triples and a pair of RBIs as the Apprentice School lost 10-4 to the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins on Thursday at War Memorial Stadium.

The Builders scored a pair of runs in the first as Dehoux hit his first triple scoring Drewry who opened the game with a walk.  Dehoux scored on a RBI groundout from Bryce Beale for a 2-1 lead.  In the second they planted another run as Kenny Eanes and Drewry singled while Eric Polk drew a walk to load the bases for Dehoux.  His single to left field scored Eanes to put the Builders up 3-1.

The Marlins tied the game in the third with a pair of runs and erupted for five runs in the fifth inning as C.J. Rhodes homered to left field scoring two and Mike McCutcheon had a solo home run in the inning as well.  Apprentice School (21-10) scored one more in the fifth as Drewry singled in Dory Fields, but the Builders gave up two more in the seventh for the 10-4 final.

Dallas Wagner took the loss for the Builders falling to 9-3 on the year throwing 4.1 innings and allowing seven hits and seven runs.  Eanes also joined the multi-hit party for the Builders going 2-for-4 as Apprentice School out-hit VWC 11-10, but made five errors in the game.

The Builders will turn around and face Briarcliffe College at 11 am on Friday in a doubleheader at War Memorial Stadium.
