Baseball Team Snags Top Seed For 2009 USCAA Nationals - Open May 12 at 7:30 pm
Correction with correct ticket prices in final paragraph and schedule
HAMPTON, VA. - The Apprentice School baseball team learned today that they will be the number one seed for the upcoming U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association National Championships starting on Tuesday May 12.
The Builders will play the last game on Tuesday at 7:30 pm against the winner of the fourth-seeded Columbia Union College Pioneers (21-17) and the fifth-seeded University of Cincinnati- Clermont Cougars (23-15-1). That game will be at 2:30 pm on Tuesday. Columbia Union defeated the Builders 8-1 in the championship game of the 2008 USCAA Nationals to win its first national title.
On Tuesday, the games will start at 930 am with second-seeded Saint Catharine College (Ky. - 33-14) against seventh-seeded Penn State Greater Allegheny (31-13). The noon game on Tuesday will be the third-seeded Penn College (33-7) and sixth-seeded Briarcliffe College (NY - 10-14).
The schedule for Wednesday will have elimination games at 930 am, noon, 230 pm and 730 pm with the winners bracket final being played at 5 pm. On Thursday, the third-place game will begin at 11 am and the first championship game will be at 1:30 pm. If a second game is needed, that will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the 1:30 pm game.
The Builders enter the tournament winners of five of their last seven games. They ended the regular season last Saturday by defeating the University of Mary Washington 8-7 on a one-out single by Ryan Wagner in the bottom of the ninth for the winning run.
