Ryan Wagner's RBI Double Lifts Builders Over Columbia Union 1-0 In USCAA Tournament
HAMPTON, VA. - Junior Ryan Wagner's one-out double in the bottom of the sixth inning scored Jonathan Dehoux with the winning run as The Apprentice School defeated the Columbia Union Pioneers 1-0 at War Memorial Stadium in the USCAA National Championship second round matchup.
The game pitted the last two USCAA National Champions as the Builders won in 2007 and the Pioneers won it last year at War Memorial Stadium.
Apprentice School's Dallas Wagner and Columbia Union's Robert Butts locked themselves into a pitchers duel. Wagner was the game MVP as he struck out eight including the last two to end the game.
The Builders opened the sixth as Dehoux was hit by a pitch and advanced on a sacrifice bunt from Bryce Beale. Wagner then laced a double to left-center scoring Dehoux with the lone run of the contest.
Apprentice School now advances to face second-seeded St. Catharine College in a 5 pm winners bracket final at War Memorial Stadium.
