Baseball Falls 13-2 To St. Catharine In USCAA Tournament
HAMPTON, VA. - Sophomore Ryan Wagner went 2-for-2 and senior Eric Polk was 2-for-3 as the Apprentice School fell 13-2 to St. Catharine College in the winners bracket final of the 2009 USCAA National Championships on Wednesday night.
The Builders trailed 10-0 before scratching a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Kyle Center drove in a run on a fielders choice and Jonathan Dehoux hit a sacrifice fly.
Brian Jones drove in three runs for the Patriots and Brad Krohman smashed a three-run home run in the seventh inning to finish the onslaught. Andy Dietz earned the win for St. Catharine throwing the first five innings allowing five hits and striking out six. Timmy Paxton closed the game with two innings of two-hit relief.
Apprentice School now has the uneasy task of having to win three games on Thursday to win the 2009 championship . That run will start at 11 am Thursday against the winner of Wednesday's late game between Columbia Union College and University of Cincinnati Clermont.
