Builders Fall 4-3 In Third Place USCAA Tournament Game To Columbia Union

BOXSCORE

HAMPTON, VA. -- The Apprentice School's baseball season came to an end on Thursday morning as they fell 4-3 to the defending USCAA National Champions Columbia Union College in the third-place game at War Memorial Stadium.

Columbia Union scored a run in the first as a pair of Builder errors and three CUC hits plated two runs.

Apprentice School scratched a run in the third as Dory Fields singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice hit from Kenny Eanes.  After stealing third, J.D. Drewry singled Fields in to cut the deficit to 2-1.

In the fourth, the Builders scored twice as Jonathan Dehoux doubled and advanced to third on an error.  Two batters later Ryan Wagner singled him to tie the game.  Dehoux's double tied his school record for hits in a season as he finished with 72.  Fields followed with a double to plate Wagner for a 3-2 lead.

The lead held until the seventh when with two outs a wild pitch scored the tying run and an errant throw attempting to get John DeGomez got by the pitcher allowing Anthony Weber to score the winning run.

Fields was 2-for-3 for the Builders as Daniel Lutz took the loss.  Dallas Wagner and Ryan Wagner were named to the USCAA All-Tournament team.
