Baseball set to start 2016 season

The Apprentice School baseball team will open its 2016 season the weekend of February 12th-14th with games against Rochester College (Mich.) and Penn State-Brandywine.

The first game of the year will be a 1 p.m. contest against the Warriors on the 12th. The Builders play Rochester again Saturday at 10 a.m. before taking on the Lions at 4 p.m. The Apprentice rounds out its opening weekend with a final game against Brandywine Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Builders host the University of Maine-Presque Isle Owls for a doubleheader on February 18th and will play a trio of home games against Penn State-Mont Alto on February 20th-21st.

Baseball wraps up the month of February with the Builder Invitational, beginning Thursday, the 25th with a 3 p.m. game with the Huskies of Bloomsburg (Pa.) University. Friday features a noon game against the Kutztown (Pa.) Golden Bears and Sunday sees the Builders play the St. Joseph's (Vt.) Fighting Saints at noon and the Indiana (Pa.) Crimson Hawks at 3 p.m.

March begins with a pair of games against the St. Vincent's (Pa.) Bearcats on the 12th and 13th. The Castleton (Vt.) Spartans visit War Memorial Stadium on the 17th before a busy weekend the 18th-20th. The Apprentice School will host the Fighting Saints again on Friday and Saturday and take on the MIT (Mass.) Engineers on Sunday.

The Builders conclude March with a home game against the Tufts (Mass.) Jumbos on Saturday the 26th, the team's first road game of the year at Mary Washington (Va.) on the 29th, and a home meeting with Thomas Nelson CC (Va.) on the 30th.

In April, the Builders sandwich games against the College of Faith (N.C.) Warriors with a pair of games against Central Penn Knights the weekend of the 1st-2nd. The Apprentice School then hosts Mary Washington on the 5th and Danville CC (Va.) on the 9th.

Monday, April 11th sees the team down the road at Christoper Newport University. Baseball follows with home games against Virginia State on the 15th and CNU on the 17th. The team hits the road to conclude the month, starting with a game at Virginia State on the 22nd. A week later, the team plays at the College of Faith on the 29th, followed by a game at Danville CC on the 30th.

The Apprentice School rounds out the Spring with a final home game against Thomas Nelson CC on May 3rd.

This year's United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Baseball Small College World Series will take place May 8th-12th at East Field Park, a multi-use facility that seats up to 7,000 fans, in Glen Falls, New York. St. Joseph's (Vt.) secured the bid to host and earns an automatic berth. The tournament will follow a ten-team, double-elimination format with all games being seven innings, with the exception of the championship game(s) lasting nine innings.
