Builders fall 62-14 to 19th-ranked Salisbury
SALISBURY, MD.
Jamar Garner ran for 105 yards and scored twice, while quarterback Bobby Sheahin threw for 128 yards and a touchdown as 19th-ranked Salisbury University defeated Apprentice School 62-14 in front of 2,040 at Sea Gull Stadium on Saturday.
Salisbury scored on their first four possessions of the first quarter with Garner accounting for the first two scores with a five-yard run with 12:24 left and a 52-yard burst with 8:50 left.
Sheahin got into the scoring act on the next two possessions connecting with Chris Newton on a 54-yard scoring pass with 4:33 left and he ran one in from 20-yards out to give the Sea Gulls a 28-0 lead after one quarter.
Apprentice School senior wide receiver Travis Reid had his best game of the season with seven receptions for 168 yards. He had a 56-yard reception on the Builders first scoring drive which was capped off by a J'Michael Swain four-yard run. The scoring drive went 77 yards on seven plays as the Builders cut the deficit to 28-7 with 12:34 left in the first half.
Salisbury, who entered the game ranked seventh in NCAA Division III averaging nearly 300 yards per game ran for 383 yards in the game and continued the barrage with a pair of rushing touchdowns in a four minute span to take a 42-7 lead into halftime.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Builders scored their final touchdown on a 14-play, 75-yard scoring drive as freshman Reginald George scored his first collegiate touchdown on a fourth-and-goal from inside the one-yardline. The drive lasted almost eight minutes and was the longest scoring drive for the Builders this season.
"I saw improvement on the little things that we will need to be where we want to be by the end of the year," said Apprentice School coach Phil Janaro. "They are a very good football team and we knew it was going to be a tough game with them."
Apprentice School now returns home for a non-conference matchup with Morrisville State (NY) next Saturday at 1 pm.
