Franklin, Sampson earn ACFC Player of the Week honors

Apprentice School senior quarterback Kyle Franklin and freshman defensive end DaMario Sampson were named Co-Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week respectively by the Atlantic Central Football Conference on Monday after their performances in the Builders' 60-0 victory over Maritime College in the Mariners Classic.

Franklin, a senior from Hampton and a machinist apprentice, was 13-of-16 with no interceptions for 225 yards and three touchdowns.  He also had a 10-yard rushing touchdown in the game.  For the year he has thrown 147 passes without an interception.

Sampson, a freshman from Wagener, SC and a painter/insulator apprentice, had eight tackles (4 solo, 4 assisted), one sack for three yards and a tackle for loss in the win.  He helped spearhead a defense that held the 19th-ranked rushing team in NCAA Division III to 62 yards -- 190 yards under their average coming into the game.

The Builders now visit Southern Virginia University in Lynchburg on Saturday at 1 pm.
