Ted Bacote Inducted To Virginia Union University Athletic Hall of Fame
Ted Bacote, a long-time area football coach who served the Apprentice School twice as an assistant coach, was inducted into the Virginia Union University Athletic Hall of Fame on October 18.
Bacote, Class of 1960 at VUU, was a captain of the 1959
football team that went undefeated. He was part of a large
induction class that included basketball coach Dave Robbins, former
NBA player Charles Oakley, former Virginia governor Doug Wilder and
former football coaches Willard Bailey and Joe Taylor.
He came to the Peninsula after graduation and began a coaching career that spanned 42 years including stops at now defunct Huntington and Carver High Schools, Ferguson High School, Hampton University and stints as an assistant coach to Paul Hoffmann and Phil Janaro with the Builders.
