12 Builders Named To All-ACFC Teams
The Atlantic Central Football Conference announced its 2008 All-ACFC teams on Thursday morning and 12 Apprentice School players were named to the team.
Freshman linebacker Mana Ohia earned Rookie Of The Year honors
from the conference making him the first Rookie Of The Year for the
Apprentice School in its eight years of being in the
conference. The Honolulu, Hi. Native had 44 tackles on the
season, eight for a loss, two sacks and two blocked kicks.
Three Builders were named to the first team in seniors Chauncy Jones (offensive line), Markim Gordon (wide receiver) and Robert Hannah (Defensive back).
Jones, a native of Fayetteville, N.C. and a production planner
apprentice, is a first-time selection at offensive line. He
has played on the line throughout his collegiate career and helped
an offensive unit that threw for the second most yards in a season
(1,595) in the last 23 years.
Gordon, from Orangeburg, S.C. and an electrician apprentice, also
is a first-time selection at wide receiver. He leads the ACFC
and the team in receptions per game (5.9) and is third in the ACFC
in receiving yards per game (50.3). He caught a school record
14 passes in the 47-38 loss at Division II Lake Erie College.
Gordon leads the team in receptions, yards, yards per game and was
second in touchdowns. He had four or more receptions in his last
five games.
Hannah, from Blythe, Ga. and a rigger apprentice, earns his first
selection at defensive back. He averaged six tackles per game
ranking him ninth in the ACFC and is tied for the lead in passes
defended (9). He was the second leading tackler on the
team. In his last collegiate game he returned an interception
31 yards in the 37-14 Oyster Bowl win over Southern Virginia.
He had a career high 14 tackles (11 solo) against nationally-ranked
Salisbury University.
Seven Builders were named to the second team. Offensive linemen Mike Kinder (Zanesville, Oh./heavy metal fabrication) and Eric Chacon (Longwood, Fl./heavy metal fabrication) join defensive linemen Jovan McCamey (Ft. Washington, Md./rigger) and James Lee (Richmond, Va./outside machinist) along with linebackers Jeremy Smith (Pelham, Ga./sheet metal) and Jeremy Drayton (Orlando, Fl./Lyman) and tight end Teo Ellis (Camden, SC/pipefitter).
Earning honorable mention honors were defensive back Daniel Richmond (Newport News, Va./shipfitter) and Bryan Cain (Baker, La./pipefitter).
