2009 All-ACFC Team


 

The Atlantic Central Football Conference office announced the 2009 All-ACFC teams on Thursday.  The Apprentice School earned six first team selections, seven second team honors and the 2009 ACFC Rookie Of The Year.  Those 16 honorees, including two honorable mention selections, were the most in the history of Builder football in the ACFC.

Freshman Louis Norwood stepped into a young defensive backfield for the Builders and recorded a stellar season.  The Baker, La. native had eight pass breakups and six interceptions which tied the school record for the Apprentice School.  He had 27 tackles, 21 solo, three blocked kicks and one forced fumble.  Norwood had two interceptions against Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham and had three breakups against Malone University in his collegiate debut. The welder apprentice was also named to the first team defensive back unit.

Teo Ellis earned a first team tight end honor.  He ended his career at tight end where he caught 24 passes this season for 359 yards and a touchdown.  He finished eighth all-time in receptions with 48.  Ellis, a senior pipefitter apprentice from Camden, S.C., was a second team All-Conference selection as a junior.

 

Bryan Cain was named to the first team wide receiver spot.  He was the leading receiver on the team this year he caught 45 passes for 623 yards and three touchdowns. His best game was against FDU-Florham catching 9 passes for 120 yards and a touchdown.  Cain, a junior pipefitter apprentice from Baker, La., was an honorable mention selection as a sophomore.

 

Jovan McCamey was named to the first team defensive line.  He topped the team in tackles for loss this year with 10.5 and had 44 tackles on the season.  The sophomore rigger apprentice from Ft. Washington, Md.,  had eight tackles against Frostburg State and seven at Webber International.  His five sacks was high on the team and he had two in the home loss to Frostburg State.

 

Jeremy Drayton earned first team linebacker honors after a junior season where he topped the team in tackles for the second straight year with 76, including two sacks and seven tackles for a loss.  The junior pipefitter apprentice from Orlando, Florida, averaged over 10 tackles per game in the last five games including a pair of 11 tackle games.  He was a second team selection as a sophomore.

Thomas Mason earned first team punter honors after a freshman season that saw him break the school record for average yards per punt by almost two yards per kick.  The freshman shipfitter apprentice from Disputanta, Va., averaged 42 yards per punt and also set the single-game punting average record when he averaged 50.3 yards per punt at Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham in September.

Second team selections include: senior quarterback Phil Caralla; senior running back Sam Arnold; senior offensive linemen Mike Kinder and Lamar Johnson; junior defensive lineman James Lee; sophomore linebacker Mana Ohia and freshman kicker Nick Foor.

Honorable mention honorees were senior lineman Jeff Leckrone and freshman wide receiver James Abbs.
