Football Home Opener To Be Televised Locally - Updated With TV Dates

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – The Apprentice School Athletic Department, in conjunction with Newport News Public Schools Television Channel 47, is proud to announce that the 2010 Apprentice School Football home opener on September 18 with Greensboro College will be televised through tape-delay on Newport News Cox Channel 47 and Verizon FiOS Channel 17.

The game will be shown locally on September 22 at 7 pm and again on September 25 at 10 am.

"Broadcasting the first-ever televised home game is a tremendous milestone for Apprentice Athletics," said Apprentice School Athletic Director Keisha Pexton. "We are excited to have the opportunity to work with Newport News Public Schools Television to expand our athletics program into the community."

Apprentice School and Greensboro have played seven times before with Greensboro leading the series 4-3.  The Builders defeated Greensboro 14-7 in the last meeting at Apprentice Field on September 7, 2002.

"It's a step in the right direction to be on television locally," said Apprentice School Head Coach Mike Vite.  "It's exciting for our players, the school and the company for the area to see what we have to offer.  It should be an exciting and fun day," Vite added.  He coached in several televised games when he was an assistant at Southern University, Wake Forest University, Michigan State University among other stops.

The game will be taped for broadcast with Greg Bicouvaris handling play-by-play and Nate Milton doing color commentary.  Newport News Public Schools Television is carried on Cox Channel 47 in Newport News and locally on Verizon FiOS Channel 17.  The station has been televising high school games since 1991 using Newport News Public High School students as a training ground for television work.   This game is also the first college game done by NNPS-TV.
