First Road Trip Of 2014 Takes Football To Catholic

The Apprentice School plays its first road game of the 2014 season tomorrow when they travel to Washington, DC and face Catholic University in a 1pm kickoff at Cardinal Stadium.

This is the ninth all-time meeting between the schools with Catholic holding a 7-1 advantage.  These teams last played on Oct. 15, 2011 with Catholic taking a 24-15 victory in Newport News.

The Builders start a two-game run against members of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with the Catholic game.  Next week, the Builders will host Bridgewater College.

Catholic enters the game coming off its bye week and sporting an 0-1 record after losing 34-31 to McDaniel College on September 5. The Cardinals had 530 yards of total offense against McDaniel, but turned the ball over five times including three interceptions.

Apprentice School is 0-2 after losing 46-24 to National Association Intercollegiate Athletics member Bluefield College on Trades Day last Saturday.  Senior Trevon Johnson is second in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association in receptions/game (4.5), while sharing the lead in touchdown receptions (2) and leading in receiving yards/game (101).



Five Builders earned weekly honors from USA College Football as USCAA Players Of The Week

  • Offensive: Trevon Johnson - 4catches, 98 yards, 1 TD
  • Defensive Lineman: Ryan Ransom - 11 tackles, 4.5 for loss, 2 forced fumbles
  • Linebacker: Erol Carter - 11 tackles, 2 for loss
  • Quarterback: Caleb Heath - 15-of-23 for 175 yards and 1 TD
  • Special Teams: Blake Penix - Averaged nearly 44 yards per punt with three inside 20
