NOTES

GOLF

  •   The Builders shot a 329 then a 337 for a 666 total to take sixth place in the 2008 Glenn Heath Shipbuilders Memorial Tournament held last week at Fords Colony on the Black Heath Course.
  • Senior BJ Maben was the low man finishing tied for 18th with teammate junior Brandon Rudisill.  Both guys carded a two-day total of 162.  Maben won the tiebreaker for 18th place with a lower second-round score (79-to-84).
  • Junior Steven Ness was the next lowest in 28th place with a 171 total followed by sophomore Ryan Sweet in a tie for 31st with a 175.
  • Apprentice School put two teams into the event and the B team finished eighth as freshman Nick Carlson was the low man coming in 34th with a 177, followed by senior Doug Ashworth in 36th with a 183.

BASEBALL

  • The Builders went 1-2 on the week splitting a doubleheader at Danville Community College on Apr. 14 taking the opener 9-5 and falling 10-4 in the nightcap.  Three days later they lost at Randolph-Macon College 6-3.
  • For the week senior Alan Riley was the leading hitter as he went 6-for-9 in the three games (.667) with a double, triple, four RBIs and a pair of runs scored.
  • Junior J.D. Drewry was next in line going 5-for-12 (.417) with four runs scored and a double.  Sophomore Kenny Eanes hit .400 for the week (4-for-10) with two RBIs and three stolen bases.
  • This week the Builders take on Chowan University on Tuesday in Murfreesboro, N.C. at 2 pm followed by hosting Rappahannock CC again on Thursday also at 2 pm.
  • Heading into the last two weeks of the regular season, a few school records are in sight for individuals

Record: .441 by Brooks Elks in 2004

Record: 53 by Chris Balus in 2002
