Weekend Preview - Nov. 21-23, 2008

 

MEN'S BASKETBALL

At Averett Tipoff Tournament

Saturday, 4 pm vs. Greensboro College (0-3)

Sunday, 4 pm vs. Averett University (1-1)

 

The men's basketball team travels to Danville to face two USA South Athletic Conference in the Averett University Tipoff.  Saturday afternoon they'll tangle with Greensboro College, while on Sunday they'll face pre-season top pick Averett Cougars.

R.J. Smith leads the Pride in scoring at 15.3 points per game, while Michael Mitchell and Walter Brady average 12 and 11 points per game apiece.  Brady and Josh Brown share the rebounding lead averaging seven per game.  Greensboro lost 77-56 on Tuesday to Guilford College.

The host Cougars split action in the Harrisonburg Tipoff defeating Bridgewater and losing to Eastern Mennonite.  Jonathan Rumley leads the team in scoring averaging 13 points per game, while Ryan Frazier and Damien Brown average 11 points each and Kenny Hart chips in 10 points per game.  Brown leads in rebounding averaging six per game.  Last season these teams split games with each winning on their home floors.

 

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Great Ships Tipoff

Friday, 8 pm vs. Penn State Greater Allegheny (1-2)

Saturday, 3 pm vs. Penn State Fayette (0-1)

 

The women's basketball team hosts the annual Great Ships Tipoff this weekend with three USCAA members joining the field.

Longtime rival Southern Virginia University will face Penn State Fayette in the 6 pm game on Friday before the host face Penn State Greater Allegheny at 8 pm.  On Saturday, the Lady Builders and SVU will flip opponents with Southern Virginia taking on Greater Allegheny at 1 and the Lady Builders meeting Fayette at 3.

This will be the first ever meetings between the Lady Builders and either team from the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

 

WRESTLING

UNC Pembroke Classic - Pembroke, N.C.

This is normally one of the tougher tournaments for the Builders as they'll see a variety of Division I, II and NAIA powers in this event.  Wrestlers from Duke, N.C. State, Campbell, Newberry and the host UNC Pembroke Braves will push the team in its last event of November.
