Healthwaves Conducts Free Cholesterol Checks To Student-Athletes For National Athletic Training Month

The Apprentice School Athletics Department has teamed up with HealthWaves in recognizing March as National Athletic Training Month. This year’s theme is “Sports Safety is a Team Effort,” and in keeping with that theme, the Apprentice School student-athletes participated in Health Screenings at the Athletics Center on Thursday, March 18th and on Wednesday, March 24th. The HealthWaves staff recorded Apprentices’ blood pressure, body composition, cholesterol, and blood glucose levels in order to identify those student-athletes who may be at risk for common diseases such as diabetes, respiratory ailments, or heart disease. Based on the results of these tests, a member of the HealthWaves staff was able to advise individuals on making better decisions related to their own personal health.

The Apprentice School Athletic Trainers are excited to bring this service to the student-athlete community. This is a great opportunity to educate our Apprentices on making better lifestyle choices while promoting injury and illness prevention. It is also a great opportunity to recognize the profession of athletic training; healthcare professionals offering prevention, recognition and evaluation of injuries, rehabilitation, healthcare administration, as well as education and guidance to those who are physically active.
