The Apprentice School basketball teams each earned a U.S.
Collegiate Athletic Association All-American as announced on
Tuesday night at the pre-tournament banquet in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Junior Eric Ruffin, from Suffolk, Va., was named first team
USCAA All-American on the men's team. He averaged 13.4
points, 4.8 assists, 4.6 rebounds and almost three steals per
game. Ruffin tied the school single-game assist record with
10 earlier this season. He had back-to-back games of 24
points against Southern Virginia and 25 against Chowan in February.
For the women, senior Tyechia Cooke was named to the USCAA
All-American squad. The Newport News, Va. native topped the
team in scoring at 11.6 points per game while recording three
double-doubles. She had 18 points and 11 rebounds in a home
win over Southern Virginia University.
The Builders also garnered one Honorable Mention All-American
award and that went to sophomore Jason Arrington. The Norfolk
native topped the team in scoring at 14.7 points per game and had a
season-high of 26 in a road win over Randolph College.
The men's team will open play in the USCAA Nationals on Thursday
night at 9 pm EST against the host team Rhema Bible College Eagles.
