Apprentice School men's basketball players Eric Ruffin and Jason
Arrington were named on Wednesday to the Honorable Mention
All-State College Division team by the Virginia Sports Information
Directors Association. This team entails all Division II,
III, NAIA and USCAA teams in the state.
Arrington was the leading scorer on the team averaging 14.6
points per game. The Norfolk native and maintenance
electrician apprentice started the season red-hot scoring 22 points
against Averett University, Francis Marion University, Southern
Maine CC and University of Maine-Fort Kent. His season best
was a 26-point outing in a road victory over Randolph
College. He had six assists in a game four times and six
steals twice. Arrington shot a team-best 74.1% from the foul
line making 100 free throws.
Ruffin was second in scoring averaging 13 points per game
but added almost five rebounds and five assists per game. The
Suffolk native and shipfitter apprentice had 24 points in a home
win over Southern Virginia in February and topped that two days
later with 25 in a road loss to Division II Chowan
University. He had nine rebounds in a game four times and
tied the school single-game assist record with 10 against Chowan in
February. Ruffin was named to the USCAA All-American team
prior to the nationals in late February.
