Apprentice School defeats Rutgers-Newark for third place at Cox Communications Classic

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. - All-Tournament selection Jason Arrington scored a game-high 20 points while Fred Spratley added 16 points and nine rebounds as the Apprentice School defeated Rutgers-Newark 66-61 for third place in the Cox Communications Blue Marlin Tipoff at the Batten Center on Saturday night.

The Builders jumped out to a 29-24 halftime lead on the strength of a strong defense that held the opponents from Newark to 29.6% shooting from the field.  In the second half, Arrington had 11 of his 20 points to lead the Builders to the victory after last night's tough 74-70 loss to sixth-ranked Virginia Wesleyan College.

Eric Ruffin added 13 points for the Builders who will now travel to Francis Marion University for a 7 pm matchup on Monday night in Florence, S.C.
