FLORENCE, S.C. - Sophomore Jason Arrington continued his strong
opening to the season with 22 points and six steals, while juniors
Eric Joe and Fred Spratley added 10 points apiece as Apprentice
School lost 93-70 on Monday night to Division II Francis Marion
University in Florence, S.C.
The host Patriots opened the game blistering the nets to the
tune of 58.1% shooting from the field (18-of-31) while the Builders
were not to that level hitting 10-of-29 from the floor
(34.5%). A 24-5 run midway through the first half gave
the Patriots a 29-12 advantage at the 8:38 mark on a pair of Sam
Smith free throws.
The Builders trimmed the margin to eight points on three
occasions in the second half, the final time at 56-48 on a pair of
Arrington free throws with 16:12 remaining. However, FMU
answered with a 16-4 run that produced a 72-52 advantage.
Smith contributed eight points to the spurt, including the first
five.
Apprentice School now returns home to face a pair of opponents
from the USA South Athletic Conference starting with Methodist
University on Saturday at 2 pm and then Averett University on
Sunday also at 2 pm.
