JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - Juniors Eric Ruffin and Fred Spratley
scored 15 points apiece while sophomore Eric Joe added 13 as the
Apprentice School fell 86-72 on Saturday night to Flagler College
in Jacksonville, Fla.
The host Saints never trailed and only had the game tied once at
8-all as Jason Arrington hit the back end of a two-shot foul.
Flagler pushed the lead to 25-12 after a Brian Borstelmann
3-pointer with 9:22 left in the half. The Builders answered
with a 12-6 run capped by a Ryan Davis layup with 4:26 left to
trail 31-24. The Saints then closed the half with a 13-4 run
to take a 46-32 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, the Builders never cut it closer than five
points. The last being when the Builders converted a
technical foul and a shooting foul into four straight free throws -
two by Nolan Thompson and two by Spratley - for a 62-57 deficit at
the 9:17 mark. Flagler responded with a 9-2 spurt for a 71-59
advantage on a pair of Ben De La Cruz foul shots with 5:44
left. The Saints never let the lead get closer than ten
points the rest of the way.
Sophomore Eric Joe added 13 points for the Builders, while
Ruffin was the leading rebounder with nine and had a team-high six
assists. Apprentice School now travels down I-95 to North
Miami on Sunday for a 1 pm matchup with USCAA member Johnson &
Wales University.
