Men's Basketball Ends Season With 99-78 Win Over Robert Morris-Springfield
NEWPORT NEWS, VA. - Senior Eric Ruffin scored 28 points and dished out nine assists as the Apprentice School defeated Robert Morris-Springfield 99-78 to close out the Great Ships Postseason Tournament and their 2008-09 season.
Junior Eric Joe added 20 points, while seniors Fred Spratley (17 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds) and Jason Arrington (14 points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals) joined Ruffin in the double figure club.
The game was tied four times in the first 5:14 before the Builders went on a 15-4 run over the next 4:08 to take a 24-13 lead on a butler tip-in with 10:56 left. Robert Morris-Springfield kept the deficit within 8-11 points for the next couple minutes before Apprentice School ripped off an 11-2 run to push the lead to 38-21 on a jumper by Joe with 5:38 remaining.
From there the lead grew to as much as 27 points in the second half, but the Eagles did cut the lead down to 16 points twice in the last 95 seconds before a Ruffin 3-pointer gave the Builders a final 99-78 victory.
The win ended the season for the Builders as they won their last five games to end with a 15-14 record.
