Apprentice School tied for fifth after day one of Marlin Invitational

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. -- In very blustery conditions with winds howling near 40 miles per hour, the Apprentice School golf team opened play in the Marlin Invitational at Virginia Beach National shooting a 339 to tie with Lynchburg College for fifth place out of 12 teams in day one.

Christopher Newport University leads the event with a 316, followed by Randolph-Macon College at 326 and Bridgewater with a 330.

Senior BJ Maben is tied with Sean Cassidy from Christopher Newport for second place in the medalist race with a 77.  Matt Wagner leads from CNU witih a 75.

The final round will tee-off on Sunday morning at the 7.300-yard Virginia Beach National Golf Club.
