Builders Take Third At USCAA Nationals - Martin Earns Medalist

STATE COLLEGE, PA. - The Apprentice School golf team finished with a 317 to leap over one squad and take third place in the 2008 US Collegiate Athletic Association National Invitational with a 645 total.

Freshman Chris Martin earned medalist honors in the invitational with his second straight 74 for a 148 total.  He edged out Mike Haley of Penn State Wilkes Barre by one shot after he carded the low round of the tournament with a one-under-par 71 and a 149 total.

First day leader Penn College shot a 313 on Tuesday to earn the championship with a 618 total.  Penn State Wilkes Barre carded the low round of the second day with a 305 to take second with a 629.

"I got to follow Chris over his last three holes and he missed three relatively easy putts which would have matched the low round of the tournament.  So I told him afterward that I was done following him around in an event," said Apprentice School Head Golf Coach Gary Crockett.  "He made it interesting, but brought home a nice honor being medalist in the nationals."

The next event on the fall slate for the Builders will be on October 12-13 participating in the Virginia State Intercollegiate Championships outside of Richmond.
