Dr. Steve Apostoles
Medical Director - Newport News Shipbuilding

A former third baseman in the Boston Red Sox organization, Apostoles is in his 11th year as Medical Director for Newport News Shipbuilding.

He is a 1979 graduate of Virginia Tech and a 1989 graduate of the Medical College of Virginia. Apostoles came to work for Newport News Shipbuilding after five years in private practice as an orthopedic surgeon.

Apostoles and his wife Renee have four children: Rachel, Meghan, Travis and Jake, who all participate in the Team Flash Track Club in Williamsburg.



Dr. Colin Kingston
Sports Medicine Specialist - General Orthopaedic and Joint Replacement

In his eighth year working with The Apprentice School athletic program, Dr. Kingston specializes in joint replacement in the lower extremities.

Kingston graduated from the State University of New York at Albany as Suma Cum Laude in 1986. He is a former Air Force physician deployed in support of military in Desert Storm,Operation Southern Watch, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.



Dr. Loel Payne
Sports Medicine - Knee and Shoulder Specialist

In his 17th year working with The Apprentice School athletic program, Dr. Payne specializes in shoulder and knee injuries.

Payne attended Duke University and was a walk-on for the basketball team as an undergraduate. Eventually the native Tar Heel graduated from University of North Carolina School of Medicine at Chapel Hill in 1989.

Following his residency at Yale he spent an entire major league baseball season with the New York Mets.
