BUENA VISTA, VA. - Senior Tyechia Cooke hit two free throws with
four seconds left as the Apprentice School knocked off Southern
Virginia University 66-64 in a USCAA matchup in Buena Vista on
Friday night.
The Lady Builders trailed 31-27 at the half and were tied 64-all
with six seconds left as Natasha Jones missed a free throw that was
snared by Cooke. She was fouled and hit both of her shots to
put Apprentice School (5-6) ahead 66-64. A last second shot
by the Lady Knights fell short and the Lady Builders won at SVU for
the first time since 2002-03.
"They have practiced so hard the last few days these ladies
definitely deserved this win," said Apprentice School Head Coach
Lanica Williams. "We did what we had to do tonight to get a
big win for us."
Cooke was the leading scorer for Apprentice School with 15
points, while freshman Jessica Henderson added a season-high 14 and
junior Rahshann Lewter also scored 14 points. Apprentice
School will face another USCAA opponent on Sunday as Columbia Union
College comes to Newport News for a 4 pm matchup.
