MURFREESBORO, NC - Freshman Valleri West recorded her first
collegiate double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds as the
Apprentice School fell 39-36 at Chowan University on Tuesday night.
The Lady Builders trailed for the majority of the first half and
took the lead three times in the second half. Apprentice
School opened the second half cutting a 20-12 deficit to 20-18 on a
Tyechia Cooke free throw with 15:18 remaining. A Serina
Brandon 3-point play turned into a four-point play after a
technical on the Chowan bench which put the Lady Builders ahead for
the first time in the second half 24-22 with 13:43 left.
The Hawks pushed the advantage back to 33-28 with 8:06 left
before the Lady Builders scored the next six points - four by West
and a jumper from Natasha Jones which put Apprentice School back
ahead 34-33 with 5:06 left. The teams traded points and the
Lady Builders took their last lead at 36-35 on a Tyisha Battle
jumper with 3:16 left.
Chowan used an AJ O'Banion jumper with 1:46 left and two Najah
Harris free throws with five seconds left for the final margin.
Apprentice School returns home for their final homestand of the
season starting Friday night with a 5:30 matchup with USCAA rival
Southern Virginia University.
