LAURINBURG, NC. - Freshman Tamara Davis scored 17 points to lead
three in double figures as the Apprentice School fell 73-57 at
Division II St. Andrews Presbyterian in the season opener for both
teams.
Apprentice School used a 15-1 run over a 4:29 span of the first
half to take a 23-12 lead on a Valleri West jumper with 8:26 left
in the half. The Knights answered with a 15-4 run to tie the
game at 27-all on a 3-pointer from Desiree Jones with 3:21
remaining. The Lady Builders pushed the lead back to six
points on two occasions in the last 3:21, but held a 36-34
advantage at the break.
In the second half, the Knights held Apprentice School to
6-of-21 shooting from the floor (28.6%) while forcing 18 of the
Lady Builders 31 turnovers in the second 20 minutes.
West was next in line with 11 points and seven rebounds, while
sophomore Jessica Henderson added 10 points.
Apprentice School will now open its home slate with the Great
Ships Tipoff Classic on Friday night as they face Penn State
Greater Allegheny at 8 pm at Apprentice Gym.
